Bioreactors

Applikon Biotechnology bioreactor systems are used widely and successfully. Glass autoclavable bioreactor systems are widely used around the world in laboratory research and is the base for development of many biotechnological and pharmaceutical products.

Single-use bioreactors
Single-use bioreactors offer an advantage of easy set up and preparation, shorter downtime periods, simpler validation, and less medium used during cultivation.
Micro bioreactors
MicroFlask (by Duetz). An integrated, easy-to-use, and cost-effective technology platform for the rapid handling and growth of large numbers of microbial strains, clonal libraries, mutant banks, and cell lines in 24 or 96-well microtiter plates. The system enables a single person to grow and test thousands of strains simultaneously with a minimum of repetitive handlings: all handling is performed in parallel for sets of 24 or 96 strains. More efficient use of your current orbital shaker: time savings up to a factor 10 possible. Same quality of growth as in Erlenmeyer flasks in terms of oxygen transfer rates and reproducibility.
Mini bioreactors
The miniBio range of bioreactors (250 mL, 500 mL and 1000 mL total volume) is a true scale down of the classic laboratory scale bioreactor (1 to 15 litres). The miniBio systems have the same flexibility as the laboratory scale bioreactors. This means that the miniBio systems can be customised to fit the demands of any process. The small volume reduces media costs and maximises bench space, which is normally at a premium.
Photobioreactors
A number of recent studies demonstrated that plants can be grown under light emitting diodes light sources very efficiently. These solid state lamps (SSL) are tiny semiconductor chips that generate light when electrified. The elements that the diode is made from determine the light spectrum it emits. These solid state devices have been improved over the years and now have greatly increased light intensity and specific wavelengths. These developments have made possible SSL as self-contained light source for plant growth.
Autoclavable bioreactors

In the laboratory bioreactor and fermenter range Applikon Biotechnology is a worldwide market leader because of its dependable and easy to use systems. The bioreactors and fermenters excel in quality and modularity. An Applikon laboratory system is easy to upgrade if a change in research activities occurs.

Glass autoclavable bioreactors and fermenters are available in:

  • 1 to 20 liter total volume
  • Stainless steel bioreactors (Bio Clave) are available in 20 to 110 liter total volume
SIP bioreactor systems

Bench top bioreactor systems. Applikon SIP (sterilize-in-place) bench top reactors are available in 7, 15, 20, and 30 liter total volume. Mainly intended for research of mammalian cells and micro-organisms and small batch production. For scale up purposes the range of the Bio Bench and Pilot Systems, designed and built to the latest worldwide standards in laboratory research complements the laboratory scale bioreactor systems. All systems can be fully documented for GMP usage and can be supplied with an extensive documentation package to support validation.

Pilot plants. The Applikon pilot plant range is divided into a microbial range and a cell culture range of volumes. The microbial SIP bioreactor systems are available in 20, 40, 70, and 140 liter total volume. The cell culture SIP bioreactor systems are available in 30, 60, and 130 liter total volume. The main difference between these two lines is the aspect ratio of the bioreactors. The microbial systems have an aspect ratio of 3.0 at total volume while, the cell culture systems have an aspect ratio of 1.5 at total volume.
