Quick microbiology

Microbiological testing

Milliflex® rapid microbiology systems are based on Milliflex® filtration technology and used for quantitative detection of microorganisms. Milliflex® Quantum system is based on fluorescence detection, and Milliflex® Rapid System – on ATP imaging technology. Both systems are well suited for fast bioburden test (microorganism boundary detection).

Work with Milliflex® Quantum system entails the use of a standard membrane filtration technology and fast enzymatic fluorescent staining method for accurate quantitative detection of living microorganisms in filtered samples. The system detects microbial colonies long before they become visible to the naked eye, and significantly reduces the duration of the test, compared with conventional microbiological methods. Milliflex® Quantum system does not destroy found microorganism colonies, therefore later they can be identified using conventional identification methods.

Milliflex® Rapid is an automated system for rapid microbial detection, calculation, determination in filtered samples taken during the manufacturing process. Milliflex® Rapid system is based on the adenosine triphosphate (ATP) bioliuminescencine technology that provides faster and more reliable test results than conventional microbial contamination detection methods. Milliflex® Rapid system can clearly distinguish between slow and fast growth of microorganisms as well as their size and ATP to quantity in water samples.

Mycoplasma detection

There is a widespread and recurring problem in different cell culture systems – mycoplasma infection. These bacteria are relatively small (0.2 – 0.3 µm) and have no cell walls, therefore are not sensitive to penicillin and many other antibiotics. This allows these organisms to grow in nutrient media without showing any signs of bacterial contamination, such as turbidity. Bioreactor contamination can result in large losses of time, material and financial if it is not detected at the beginning of the process. Mycoplasma contamination in biopharmaceutical manufacturing is one of the main reasons for failure of the batch. Therefore, it is important to check the pollution of the various stages of the manufacturing process. Merck offers reliable solutions for quick mycoplasma detection systems based on real-time transcription promoted amplification  (real-time TMA) technology.

Merck Millipore MilliPROBE® system will quickly and effectively detect mycoplasma in your bioreactor at an early stage of the manufacturing process. These systems will help to get results within four hours, while using conventional methods, the result is obtained only after 28 days. This allows you to precisely identify the infection early, to limit its effects and reduce downtime.

Pathogen detection

Test flexibility, ease of use, reliable and accurate results in the shortest time are very important for pathogen detection in daily work. For rapid detection of pathogens Merck offers dehydrated culture media and immunological lateral flow tests.

Merck Millipore dehydrated culture media are produced by a unique granulation technology that meets the highest industry performance standards and guarantees the safety of products. Main properties of dehydrated nutrient media: security (minimum of allergens, allergic reaction risks), fast solubility in water, reliability (ingredient homogeneity ensures reliability of results even in small media quantities).

Merck Millipore lateral flow tests are easier to use, faster, more comfortable than conventional tests. Using them together with our granular media, you will ensure optimal test results. Singlepath® E. coli O157 Singlepath® Salmonella, Campylobacter and Duopath Singlepath® Verotoxins ® rapid tests are approved by AOAC-RI. Using Merck immunological lateral flow tests for pathogen detection, you will get the final results after 20 minutes.
